Belief Elicitation and Behavioral Incentive Compatibility

چکیده
Subjective beliefs are crucial for economic inference, yet behavior can challenge the elicitation. We propose that belief elicitation should be incentive compatible not only theoretically but also in a de facto behavioral sense. To demonstrate, we show binarized scoring rule, state-of-the-art elicitation, violates two weak conditions compatibility: (i) within information on incentives increases deviations from truthful reporting; and (ii) pure choice over set of incentives, most deviate theorized maximizer. Moreover, document systematic center-biased, elicited substantially distort inference. (JEL D83, D91)

Monotonicity and Incentive Compatibility
Understanding multi-dimensional mechanism design. 1 The Model Let M = {1, . . . , m} be a finite set of agents. Every agent has private information, which can be multi-dimensional. This is called his type. The space from which an agent draws his type is called his type space. Let Ti denote the type space of agent i ∈ M . We assume Ti ⊆ R n for some integer n ≥ 1. Let T m = ×mi=1Ti. Also, denote...

At t = 1, an expert has (probabilistic) information about a random outcome X. The expert obtains further information as time passes, up to t = N at which X is publicly revealed. (How) Can a protocol be devised that induces the expert, as a strict best response, to reveal at the outset his prior assessment of both X and the information flows he anticipates and, subsequently, what information he ...
متن کاملLocal incentive compatibility with transfers
We consider locally incentive compatible mechanisms with deterministic allocation rules and transfers with quasilinear utility. We identify a rich class of type spaces, which includes the single peaked type space, where local incentive compatibility does not imply incentive compatibility. Our main result shows that in such type spaces, a mechanism is locally incentive compatible and payment-onl...
متن کاملIncentive effects: The case of belief elicitation from individuals in groups
A slew of recent studies have included a belief elicitation component because reliable direct measurements of beliefs rather than inferences from choice data that require additional assumptions allow for sharper tests of theories about decision-making and strategic interactions. Some of these studies incentivize the belief reports by paying based on the accuracy of the beliefs via a scoring rul...
متن کاملIncentive compatibility and systematic software reuse
Systematic software reuse has emerged as a promising route to improved software development productivity and quality. Many large corporations have initiated systematic reuse programs, and many reuse frameworks have been developed to guide organizations in these efforts. Yet, in spite of this, systematic reuse in practice has been difficult to achieve. In this article we argue that a key inhibit...
